Congratulations Cole! I’m glad you found a buddy to go through the process with as well. Wishing you all the best in your recovery!

This was normal for me. Your bladder is on top of your vagina’s opening and cervix so I would suspect that is why you get the urge. I always have to go after intercourse. You’ll get use to the feeling and it won’t feel so urgent.

Thanks, Heather! We are through the roof with excitement. I have been inspired by so many stories from Dr. Pacik’s patients glad I can give a little back. 🙂

So happy for you, Possum! I think Dr. P’s whole process is key and it’s not just the botox. Plus the support he offers afterwards through email and phone calls is really important. You will have lots of questions before, during and after the procedure and you don’t want to get short changed by a doctor who just wants to do the botox and be done (not saying all doctors are like this but if they aren’t open to the dilation it makes me skeptical at what support/help they will offer after the botox.) I know you will not be sorry and I’m glad your family is supportive. All the support you can get is great! I can’t wait to read your success story!

Dr. Pacik couldn’t have summed up things any better. I can say as an expectant mother (due in January) that 3 years ago before I had my procedure I worried I would never see myself as a mother. Now that I am reaching this dream, my dream is that my future children will never have to struggle with vaginismus because even if they have it doctors will know exactly how to help them. They will not have see multiple doctors and feel like they are crazy or making things up.

For all of you ladies waiting to be Moms it WILL happen and be possible! You are all amazing and courageous women and all your hard work and struggle will be rewarded!

K, I applaud you for not giving up and going in for the procedure again. I have faith this time it will work because you are “ready” now and in a more supportive situation. I had the procedure 3 years ago and have had great success. I wish you all the best and a short wait until August 13. The waiting is the hardest part.

Allie, November will be here before you know it. I know it’s hard to wait but it is so worth it.

I can’t wait to hear all your success stories!

“Bravery is the capacity to perform properly even when scared half to death.” ~ Omar N. Bradley This pretty much sums up my vaginismus journey. I pushed through it and put on a “its no big deal” front but I was scared I would never be “fixed.

Dr. Pacik is correct that dilating early on is a roller coaster ride. You are making progress and definitely celebrate every success! Even once you start trying intercourse you will have days where it goes smoothly and days where you wonder if the procedure worked. Stay positive and keep trying. I remember thinking will intercourse ever not have to be a “robotic” process. A little over 3 years now from my procedure I can tell you I rarely have to worry or get prepared to have intercourse. You are doing great and soon you will not even think about all the dilating and struggle. 🙂

The best positions I’ve found are either on your stomach with pillows under you or with me on top. I think my husband was just nervous about hurting me after the procedure. He got over it fairly quickly and now sex is much less “going through the motions” than at the beginning. We are currently trying to conceive and the only think I did was do a pre-conception visit with my O.B. and email Dr. Pacik to see if there was anything I needed a heads up about.

I agree with you Heather. I did not notice when the botox wore off. I am grateful for this. I will say I was worried that it would wear off and the all the positive results I was seeing would go away. Luckily this did not happen!

    1) Yes, it is completely normal to be sick/nervous before the procedure. Every bio I have read and my first hand experience is that women with vaginismus have been through the ringer. I hoped that physical therapy, different medications, different specialists and dilators on their own would be cure. They all ended in disappointment so of course I was nervous/scared of the procedure. I am so glad I went through with it now!
2.) I brought a travel neck pillow to sit on after the procedure. I only used it in the car the first day or two. I was pretty good to go after that. I definitely suggest some type of pillow just in case. The more organized and at ease you are before the surgery the less worry you’ll have afterwards.

It is completely normal to be scared that waking up with the dilator will be scary! I remember thinking what if it doesn’t work for me or what if it is more painful than before the botox. I usually don’t have to dilate anymore. I am 2 and 1/2 years post botox. I find if it’s been awhile since intercourse it does help. I never thought I’d find a cure but the botox was my cure. I had my first gynecological exam this year that was not painful or scary or highly stressful! Please keep us up to date on your progress! I know you will be in wonderful hands.
