Allie, what wonderful news!!! I am so happy that the procedure worked exactly as planned!! 😀 I had my procedure on 6/16/14 and I was able to achieve intercourse with my boyfriend after 3 weeks. I am a secondary vaginismus patient who was able to have painfree intercourse for several years, but about 4.5 years ago it started to hurt. It got worse and worse until my long-term boyfriend and I were still able to have sex, but it was so painful and miserable for me that we just didn’t do it. Dilating has been going really well for me and I keep to the schedule that Dr. Pacik told us all to do. I have a question for you if you don’t mind me asking – the first time you had sex, was it completely pain free? Because we have had sex a handful of times since the procedure and it’s never pain free. It’s a lot LESS pain than I have felt in years, but still pain throughout the whole act. Am wondering, from a seasoned, cured vaginismus veteran, if you had a similar experience or if you were just pain free immediately? Does the pain truly go away?! :/

I feel so sad for that woman who struggled so much, but I am SO pleased that she came back and that she eventually progressed with Dr. Pacik’s help and encouragement! I can completely see where she is coming from in that she felt “left behind” and scared. I was fortunate to be the “easiest” of the 3 patients during my procedure, but even now, a month after my procedure, reading success stories that talk about completely painfree penetration makes me feel like there is still something “wrong” with me (as intercourse still hurts about a 1-2 and I am nervous it always will. I know time will change that, it’s just hard to believe!). I am just so glad that although the person Dr. Pacik posted about had a very rough first and second day, she pulled through on the third day and started making progress! I am also so glad that her husband seems to be so supportive and involved. His post was very profound. Best of luck to her and her husband!

Geremia, thanks so much for posting this! It is so important to hear from the men who also suffer from vaginismus and who are there wholeheartedly for their partners! I am glad you sent those emails to your medical friends, and hopefully they can spread the word. I am so pleased that your wife is progressing and that you both had a pleasant [enough] experience at Dr. Pacik’s office! My boyfriend had a very similar experience to you in the exam room, and he said he was freaked out when my legs were twitching during the procedure even though I was under anesthesia, but that the nurses made sure to let him know I was fine. He learned a lot and had a great understanding (and appreciation) for what I was going through. Best of luck to you both! You WILL get through this! I am a secondary vaginismus patient and had my procedure on 6/16 and successfully dilate to 6 glass everyday, and my boyfriend and I were able to have sex within 3 weeks. The pain was a 2, which freaked me out because I thought it would barely hurt and was surprised, but compared to the 9-10 I used to have, I’d say that’s a great start!

So excited for your progress, galaxygal! Glad the procedure went well, and I know the upcoming women (like klove and ndd0817 above) will do wonderful as well! It seems like you had a very similar experience to me, galaxygal, which is great 🙂 Best of luck dilating and transitioning to intercourse when the time is right!! Like KatieG07 said, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask because we are all here for you! I can’t believe how much I have learned and how much support I have received from this forum and the women I have met on it!

Galaxygal, thank you so much for responding! I am so excited to hear about your progress, especially since you are a secondary vaginismus sufferer, too! I completely and 100% agree that thinking about what sex was like before vaginismus is so damaging, but almost impossible to not think about. For me, I can barely even remember what sex felt like when I was “normal” and not hurting, which is very unfortunate but also good at the same time. Please keep in touch, I would like to hear about your progress!! How is the dilating going for you? I found the dilation to be pretty easy for me after the first few days (annoying and uncomfortable, but not very painful) and it continues to be so. Sex on the other hand still hurts about a 1-2. I feel that burning stretching pain but it is throughout the whole act of intercourse so it makes me nervous that something else is wrong besides the stretching. I am trying to tell myself that it’s fine and I am right on track but it’s a little discouraging, especially since so many women rave about being pain free so quickly after the procedure, and for GOOD. I’ve read some posts where women have that stretching burn upon entry but then they are pain free for the rest of sex. I hope to achieve that someday!! Either way, this is much better than the 9-10 pain I was feeling during intercourse with vaginismus, which would sometimes leave me in tears! But I do hope to reach painfree intercourse someday, and soon, because even living with a little pain during intercourse is just not acceptable! Anyway, please do keep in touch because I would love to know your progress, from a fellow secondary vaginismus patient!

Congratulations, Katie!!! 😀 This is such an exciting step, and we all knew you would get there! I think it was a great idea that you worked with silicone 6 first, since the glass 6 was not working out right now. My suggestion is to keep dilating to silicone 6 each evening, and hopefully eventually you will be able to remove the silicone 6 and work in the glass 6 simultaneously. I wholeheartedly agree that the glass is much firmer and has less “give” than the silicone or a real penis (Dr. P told us this, too) so that is why you are feeling such a difference between the glass and silicone 6’s even though they are the same size. Don’t fret!! Fingers crossed for you this weekend to have sex with your husband! I just recently posted about my recent intercourse experiences after my procedure (which I had one week after you!) and my advice is don’t go in with any expectations, and just go with the flow. Don’t let yourself be disappointed because there is nothing to be disappointed about – you are taking the next step, regardless of how “far” you get with that next step. Easier said than done, of course. And, don’t forget foreplay! Best of luck!

Thank you, 23years! You will have an intercourse success story in no time, I am sure! Keep kicking butt with the dilating!!! It makes me so happy to know that you are no longer suffering and you are on the road to recovery after SO long!

    I have a quick update!

My boyfriend and I had intercourse again tonight, and it was better than 2 days ago on our first try! This time was much less mechanical and we communicated more about what felt good and what didn’t (that was all thanks to my boyfriend, who remembered the communication piece and initiated it). We engaged in more foreplay, tried different positions and Slippery Stuff lube seemed to work better than Surgilube for sex.

The pain was still at a 2, but it was slightly different. It was not as constant as the first time, but more sporadic. I still feel as if I am having muscle spasms, but I know this can’t be possible with the Botox, so the stretching must be what I am feeling. At one point, it almost felt like he had on a ribbed condom (he had no condom on, I am on the pill); it didn’t feel smooth during thrusting (felt ribbed), and that caused me to feel irritating pain. I could still feel pain / pressure when we went too deep and his penis seemed to hit my cervix again.

My anxiety was less this time, because we were more connected as a couple and it was not as mechanical. Very pleased that our second try was better than our first both emotionally and physically, and hoping that the pain subsides soon – at least it’s not worse! I do not feel awfully sore afterwards either, which I used to feel after sex before I had the procedure.
