Word of the day: PHUBBING

Young indian woman final

As a fan of “word of the day,” I discovered a new one: “Phubbing.” Phubbing is when your partner is snubbing you by constantly checking their phone when they are with you.

I feel that computers, although amazing, necessary, and beneficial, cause people to isolate themselves. Now we are joined by the Smartphone which can be damaging to relationships as well.

The typical American checks their phone approximately 150 times daily. Phone use has become a hotbed of conflict as we are surrounded by “attention siphoning devices.”

Time spent interacting with your phone limits real interaction with significant others, creates fighting, and weakens the romantic bond. It also feels like we are competing for our partners’ attention with a phone and he/she is choosing the phone.
