ParticipantJust wanted to provide an update here: after lots of trying I finally had more successful penetration with my partner. It not only didn’t hurt but it felt really good. I think I might be cured or close to it 🙂 Thank you everyone so much for the support!

ParticipantHi Karla, you should definitely keep trying. I’m almost completely recovered now but some parts of my recovery took a lot longer than others. It wasn’t a completely linear process either. For example, I progressed really quickly through the smallest dilators but then when I reached 4, I stopped progressing completely for a while and then kept progressing again much later. Then the transition to sex took a long time too (I still have some pain even though it’s been months). I don’t know why it works that way but you might just be dealing with a slow portion of your recovery.

ParticipantHi Jaclynfich, I went through something very similar. What was successful for me was just being honest with my partner about my diagnosis, dilating first and using lube. Many people say that woman on top is easiest when transitioning but I actually found the best thing was to have him on top. We also implemented using numbers during intercourse for me to tell him my pain level from 1-10 as we went. We agreed if I said 6 or higher we had to stop.

ParticipantThank you everyone for the words of encouragement! I wanted to provide an update that my partner and I tried to have sex again this time dilating first and using lube and it worked! It wasn’t the most comfortable, I still felt a little bit of pain but it worked well for my partner and he finished. Hopefully things will only improve from here 🙂

ParticipantThank you so much. We’re going to try again this week with dilating and lube. I’m still wondering if it’s normal for the first couple times to be bad for the man too? I was expecting it to be not amazing for me but still decent for him.

ParticipantHey abstractallie, I did really well with the hard plastic dilators from vuvatech. I went from the smallest to the largest in just three months. It wasn’t always easy but perseverance is key. I would highly recommend them. I recently started the transition to sex and I would say the feeling of having a penis inside is not too different from a dilator. The main factor that makes it different is the involvement of another person (you basically have to train them on how to handle your condition). When you transition to sex you need to make sure the person you’re with is ready to be super patient with you and getting to know what hurts and what doesn’t.
