ParticipantHi Jessbee,
I understand what you mean and wonder about this for myself as well. I am still having a decent amount of pain and/or lots of pressure with inserting the mid-range dilators, so part of me wonders how sex will ever be something that is pleasurable and not like I’m shoving things up there. It seems like it’s just a frame of mind that almost has to catch up to our physical progress, but I’m also definitely looking forward to any tips anyone can share. 🙂

ParticipantThanks so much, Lulu. You are brave to share your story. I am happy that we are able to talk about this on the forum. You’re right, it’s incredibly isolating.
I remember several years ago I tried to talk about this with one of my best friends from high school who had also recently wed. When I began talking about it she literally said, “ew” and the conversation stopped. Um, okay! The only people I feel I can talk about this to are my husband, my mom, and the people involved in this forum. But at the same time I know that the word needs to get out because otherwise people will continue to be uneducated about vaginismus.
I think you will be so happy that you decided to schedule the procedure. It has already done a world of good for me and it has only been 3 days. I hope you and your husband have a wonderful experience and a safe trip to NH.

ParticipantI have found these things to be helpful to relax while dilating: 1) being in the shower in the standing position, 2) doing deep inhales and exhales – inserting on the exhale, 3) making myself laugh while I insert – it seems to help relax my muscles a lot.

ParticipantActually we are doing a road trip up the coast from Florida!
I had a question about visiting the area if you wouldn’t mind. I would like to possibly visit Maine and check out an awesome lobster restaurant, perhaps near the water or a neat area for a bit of exploring. Do you have any suggestions for places not too far up into Maine? Maybe an hour and a half drive or less?

ParticipantThanks so much, Heather! My husband and I started a big road trip several days ago with this procedure as the final event. Unfortunately, a huge truck crashed into us on the 1st day of our vacation!!! We were checked out and are both fine with just some large bruises. Our car is totaled, but we forge on in a rental car! As you can imagine it’s been fun (ha) dealing with all of the insurance details during our journey. But this is just one more roadblock to overcome on the road to health.

ParticipantHi, everyone! This is my 1st post on the forum. My procedure is in less than a month now (June 15th)! I have managed to stay pretty calm about it so far, but I know I’m going to star getting a bit nervous the night before and when I step into the office. Any tips from those who have been through it before? Would you mind going through everything step-by-step as it happened? I am the type of person who does much better knowing every step before it’s going to happen.
