Are libido-enhancing foods for real?

I get random emails about food daily, and I’m guessing you do too. Foods that can lift mood and improve mental health, foods that give you better workouts, foods that lower blood pressure, increase energy, reduce inflammation, and of course foods that boost libido. It’s difficult to find the truth on the internet.

Hilda Hutcherson, MD devotes an entire chapter to sexy foods fact or fiction in her book Pleasure. Here’s the lowdown:

She nixes asparagus, carrots, cayenne, coffee and garlic. She emphasizes that “the mind is the strongest aphrodisiac there is.” The neurochemicals that are released to put us in the mood are made from the proteins we eat (proteins help create essential sex hormones – who knew!).

Vitamins B1, B3, B6, C, A, D, and folate are all good for sexual health and stamina. In short, eat your fruits, vegetables and whole grains! Dr. Hutcherson also stresses that water is extremely important for good sex. Minerals such as Iron, Iodine, Selenium, as well as Zinc which is found in mushrooms, seafood, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds are beneficial as well. Honey contains Boron which is a mineral that may raise production of the hormone of desire (Testosterone).

How sweet is that!? If you’re having trouble with your libido, contact us or check out our list of recommended books on the topic.
