Thank you for posting this, Kiala. Definitely something to think about! This study seems to suggest that vaginismus is actually caused by REAL pain in a large group of patients, which blends to “fear of having pain” (and vaginismus) after a while That sounds logical! A difficult first sex experience, a painful internal exam, pain during tampon usage… instead of thinking it’s vaginismus that causes these issues, those events ITSELF might actually have caused vaginismus!

When sex hurts, it has an impact on your libido and self confidence. I had 0 interest in discovering how I could bring myself to an orgasm, simply because sex meant pain and not pleasure. Weird but that’s how I think it goes for most patients. I’m in my twenties now and I feel like I’ve barely begun doing what I should have done as a teen. I’m not too ashamed to admit I never had an orgasm in my entire life.

I ran into the exact same issue with my boyfriend, who had no sexual experience when I ended my therapy. I must say that it didn’t want as smooth as in @recessivegenequeen’s experience. I think he abstained for 3 or 4 months before he finally was able to have an ejaculation inside of me. We got the advice from our sexologist and he told us it usually takes several months, so I guess you were lucky 🙂 What did the trick at the end was lots and lots of foreplay and teasing. Once he was able to come inside of me for the first time, it became a lot easier for him.
