ParticipantThanks for the reply. I’ve been using diazepam suppositories for awhile and I do think they helped soften everything up. I took them every night for a month or so and now i take them every so often. They help but the effects don’t seem to last, which is why I’ve been exploring Botox. A couple of months with less pain sounds really attractive, and could help me convince my brain not to anticipate pain all the time.

ParticipantThanks for the reply! So I actually really don’t have an issue with my largest dilator, and I can sometimes have pain free PIV. I’ve never had the fear I’ve read about in other patients, I was always able to have intercourse it was just painful. Things have definitely calmed down, but I have all these painful spots that just don’t seem to be getting better with the dilator. PT has been helping a little especially in things not getting worse, but doesn’t really seem to be moving in a better direction.
I’m curious about Botox in someone like me, where I don’t have the fear or inability to penetrate, but maybe breaking the pain cycle in my brain could help my muscles learn to stay relaxed as a natural state? I just haven’t found similar experiences to mine so it’s hard to know what next steps I should explore.

ParticipantHow do the Syracuse Medical dilators compare in size to the Pure Romance ones? Is there one that is between the largest 2 pure romance ones, for a more gradual jump?

ParticipantThank you! That’s really helpful. I’ll try taking it every night for awhile instead of right before dilating.

ParticipantMy doctor prescribed this to me on an as needed basis but I tried it for the first time in the past couple days, to help me work up to the 5th pure romance dilator. I typically dilate in the middle of the day and I’m definitely feeling sleepy- enough to deter me from using it if I have to work afterwards. How common is this reaction?
Would there be a benefit to taking it at bedtime regularly for awhile even if I’m not about to dilate?

ParticipantI was diagnosed with Vaginismus a few days ago and given dilators but I’m really confused on where to start. I’ve been married/sexual active for 3 and a half years. I was able to use tampons, have a gynecological exam and have intercourses, it was just always painful.
I don’t understand how dilators will help me, since I already know they will fit inside me. Do I start with a larger size? Should I still be using the smallest ones for a specific amount of time? My doctor’s instructions weren’t that clear!
