Make a Little Mischief

I recently signed up to receive a biweekly delivery of “Mischief Box” which is filled with vegetables and I never know exactly what’s inside until I open it (like on Chopped!). Being a creature of habit, the kind of person who dips her big toe slowly into the pool and not one to dive right into the deep end, this has been a challenge for me. Surprisingly, I find myself excited by the creative process of first figuring out what the produce is (Black Spanish Radish anyone?), and then expanding my repertoire by using it to concoct some edible food. Despite some epic fails I eagerly await the next box. My food is no longer boring, and I am not bored.

In her book Mating in Captivity, Esther Perel writes “Desire needs mystery, the novel, and the unexpected. It is less concerned with where it has already been than passionate about where it can still go. But too often, as couples settle into the comforts of love, they cease to fan the flame of desire. They forget that fire needs air.”

Seeking and discovering new and interesting experiences keep us on our toes and makes things exciting. If this is true for making a better meal, it’s certainly true for making for better sex. Changing things up can make sex feel renewed and fun. So, make some mischief!

Here are some ideas: Alter the place you have sex, the time you have sex, your go to position, your names. Try a new toy, erotic massage, play games, role play. Engage your senses by lighting a candle, taking a bubble bath, aromatherapy, looking at each other, playing music, using feathers, scarves or a blindfold. Try something that you’ve thought about but haven’t done before. Hmmm, now what can I do with these Fiddlehead greens?!
