Hi ladies. I wanted to update you and discuss some new methods of advocacy. Recently, while researching and sending articles in for submission, I came across this article:

Vaginismus – Virgin Wife Syndrome Solved by Botox and Other Means. http://www.fitcommerce.com/Blueprint/Vaginismus

    Virgin-Wife-Syndrome-Solved-by-Botox-and-Other-Means_page.aspx?pageId=276&announcementId=1383&portalId=2&cid=631

    Excerpts from the article include:
“According to MSNBC, botulinum Toxin A, the active ingredient in drugs such as Botox, can help ease painful vaginal conditions that prevents normal intercourse. In their interview with Dr. Peter T. Pacik, a New Hampshire plastic surgeon who is conducting an FDA-approved clinical trial testing the use of Botox on severe cases of vaginismus. “Most patients I treat are unable to consummate, unable to have a family.”

I wrote up the following comment/review for this article:
“I suffered from vaginismus for 15 years and could not tolerate any form of penetration (even a q-tip). I’ve been together with my husband for 11 years and married for 5 years. We tried several times and failed at intercourse due to extreme pain. I also attempted to have gynecological exams but this, too, proved impossible due to pain. Then, I researched, researched, and researched some more and finally found Dr. Pacik’s website which described Botox as a treatment for vaginismus. I drove an hour north from Boston to his NH surgi-center and had the Botox procedure done on 6/27. One week later (only 7 days post-procedure), I was able to have intercourse with my husband for the first time entirely pain-free. We couldn’t be happier now and I seriously owe it all to this Botox treatment that worked so, so well to cure my vaginismus.”

I would encourage you all to read the article and write up a comment/review as well. The more that we all can do to ‘spread the word’, the more it will help other women out there with vaginismus to receive the treatment that they deserve and to find this cure.
