The idea of dilation is “odd” for most patients, and many tell us they can get all consumed thinking about dilation. It may never become something you will look forward to, but you can create positive associations with it. Try and dilate while doing something else you enjoy: reading a book, watching a movie, netflix, listen to music, shop on amazon, etc. There are numerous things you can do while dilating, and it really does help take you mind away from the fear and anxiety that dilating can cause. Anyone have anything else they can recomend that helped them take their “mind off” dilating while they are dilating?

So useful Nicole. Perhaps taking a warm bath before dilating can help with relaxation. Breathing fully and steadily can be of benefit as well. Best of luck to all you brave women.

This is a wonderful thread. I always, always tried to do something fun while dilating (especially when using the larger dilators in the beginning phase). It helped to watch a movie with the hubby in a comfortable position on the couch and also to watch some of our favorite shows. It was “our time” and, again, made it much, much better! In an older thread, one of the gals posted a great thing that worked for her – she went shopping while dilating with the glass dilators. It worked for her and she could enjoy shopping while getting the dilating time in as well. :):):)
